This special issue covers the whole of 2015 and focuses on the follow-up of new indicators notably the number of ships at anchorage, port turnaround time for imported second-hand vehicles and air freight.
In 2015, some 1,156 vessels berthed at the port of Douala. A little less than thirty ships on average were at anchorage per day. Their overall anchorage stay time decreased by at least one day depending on the type of vessel. Port turnaround time for import containers registered a better performance during the 2nd quarter of 2015 as compared to the previous quarter.
The 4th quarter of 2015 recorded the shortest port turnaround time for imported second-hand vehicles.
Between the first and second half of 2015, rail freight rose by 4.1% while airfreight fell by around 20%.
Period: 4th quarter 2014
During the 4th quarter of 2014, 306 vessels berthed at the port of Douala. Their overall anchorage stay time dropped from 4 to 5 days for the main types of ships. Port traffic increased by about 18%.
Port turnaround time for import containers recorded a remarkable increase during the month of December 2014.Rail freight volume fell by 8.2%
Period: 3rd quater 2014
During the third quarter of 2014, 279 vessels berthed at the Douala port . They spent a longer time at anchorage compared to the previous quarter. However, they spent a lesser time at berth.
Port traffic dropped by about 2% and the average port turnaround time for import containers was 14 days in September.
Rail freight volume dropped by 9%. The cost of transporting containers from Douala to Ngaoundere remained stable while that of the transport of goods from Ngaoundere to Douala increased by approximately 27%.
Period: 2nd quarter of 2014
The second issue of the Economic Outlook that covers the 2nd quarter of 2014 reveals that the number of ships that berthed at the port of Douala totalled 295, 5 ships lesser than in the previous quarter.
Port turnaround time for containers was higher than in the previous quarter (about 20 days).
Rail freight kept its upward trend with a tonnage of approximately 447,000
