Transport and Public Works: CEMAC in perfect agreement
On 19 October 2017, a meeting was held in Douala (Cameroon) between the Ministers of Transport and public Works of member States of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central African States (CEMAC). The main item on the agenda of the said meeting that was presided over by Mr. Edgar Alain MEBE NGO’O, Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, was the validation of two important documents namely, the community’s transport policy paper including that of rail and road transport infrastructure which will serve as a orientation and prospective beacon for the new vision and challenges in the area of transport and infrastructure.
Mr. HASSAN ADOUM BAKHIT, the CEMAC commissioner in charge of the department of infrastructure and sustainable development said that all components of the transport system, namely linear infrastructure, equipment, know-how and aspects of regional transport governance shall be reviewed. Besides, sustainable development remains a priority. The aim of the present meeting was thus to review all issues arising from cargo and passenger transport in Central Africa.
At the end of the session, the CEMAC Commission shall have the leeway to submit to the CEMAC Heads of State for decision, strategies, and ways and means to render the community an economic area by horizon 2035 where trade and mobility of persons shall be fluid, sustainable and effective.
