Shrimp fishing in Cameroon
At the end of 2024, Cameroon adopted a law to regulate subsidies in the maritime fishing sector. According to the FAO, this law and the associated management plans aim to ensure a balance between the biological potential of stocks and fishing capacity, while maximizing the net socio-economic benefits derived from shrimp exploitation.
Gérald Tchatchoua, acting FAO representative in Cameroon, emphasized that “the development of the shrimp fisheries management plan is a key issue in the strategy for upgrading the shrimp fisheries value chain, validated in 2022 as part of the Fish4ACP project”. This value chain concerns four shrimp species: pink shrimp, gambas, grey shrimp (or Guinea shrimp) and tiger shrimp.
