IMPORTATION OF DOMESTIC GAS
Cameroon has benefited for many years now from an annual 5% subsidy on the cost of domestic gas, a precious commodity. According to SNH, 21% of consumption was covered by local production in 2021. In 2022, Cameroon officially spent CFAF 75 billion on subsidising domestic gas consumption, due to the rising cost of hydrocarbons on the world market.
With this in mind, Mr Okie Johnson Ndoh, Chairman of the Ad hoc committee in charge of petroleum product imports for the second half of 2024, announced that 60,000 metric tonnes of domestic gas would be imported to supply the Cameroonian market. This import operation will be carried out in two batches, for volumes of 35,000 MT and 25,000 MT respectively.
