Commissioning of a cassava processing plant
A cassava processing plant was officially inaugurated on 12 January 2024 at Ngoulemakong in the Centre region by Mr. Gabriel Mbairobe, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), in line with the implementation of the import-substitution policy. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Gabriel Mbairobe announced that the Ngoulemakong plant is the first in a series of eight plants to be constructed across the country in 2024.
The Ngoulemakong factory is owned by Société Coopétrative des Producteurs de Manioc (SOCOOPROMAM COO-CA). The complex has a production line for starch, garri and cassava flour. These are all products that are in great demand in the sub-region, and highly sought for internationally by the World Food Programme (WFP). This production unit, which received support from the World Bank, has a daily production capacity of 20 tonnes, making for a total of 550 tonnes per month.
The seven other processing plants will be located at Bangem in the South-West region, Dibombari in the Littoral region, Lobo and Batchenga in the Centre region and at Mvangan in the South region.
