A trucker facility under construction in Ngaoundere

Cameroon’s sub-regional integration policy is being materialised through the construction of trucker accommodation centres for road transporters. This action, which contributes to trade facilitation, also aims to improve safety and security conditions for transport stakeholders along Cameroon's road corridors. With this in mind, the Governor of the Adamawa region, Mr. Kilda Taguieke Bouka, presided over the official foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Ngaoundere Trucker Accommodation Centre at Tchabal Djalingo in the Ngaoundere III Subdivision on 22 October 2023. Speaking at the event, the Governor emphasised that "this achievement, which is a safety requirement, is perfectly in line with the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (NDS 30), which sees transport as an essential catalyst for Cameroon's emergence". The ceremony was attended by the General Manager of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, and many other administrative, political and traditional authorities, as well as cross-border trade actors based in Ngaoundere.

This CNSC project is fully in line with the nation’s strategy to promote and facilitate cross-border trade between Cameroon and neighboring landlocked countries via the Douala/Kribi-N'Djamena and Douala/Kribi-Bangui road corridors. In prospection, the CNSC Ngaoundere Trucker Accommodation Centre will help tackle a number of problems on the various road corridors such as the uncontrolled parking of trucks along highways, road accidents, and the need to provide cross-border traders with comfortable working and living conditions. For Mr. Djidji Hamadou, Vice-Chairman of the Cameroon Road Transporters' Union of the Adamawa region, "Ngaoundere should be a compulsory stop for all road transporters, and this trucker facility will help reduce the number of road accidents caused by driver fatigue".

To be constructed on a 3.38-hectare site at Tchabal Djalingo on National Road No. 3 in the Ngaoundere III Subdivision, the facility will offer modern amenities such as a secure parking lot with a 150-truck capacity, a lodging facility with 10 self-contained rooms, an administrative block and multi-purpose rooms, a trading area, a 20-seat eatery, a prayer hall, a borehole for water and steady electricity supply.
